What does indie style mean? 

The whole point of indie mens style is being independent in yourself, in your vibe and in your very own style. Still a little confused? Well, look at it this way: “indie” is short for “independent” so indie aesthetic comes from the idea of being independent of, and deviating from mainstream culture and trends. This aesthetic is a little more lively and unique. It tends to draw inspiration from alternative music and radiates a young-hearted energy that’s all about enjoying the simple things in life. 

The Difference Between Grunge Fashion & Indie Aesthetic

A lot of people tend to get grunge aesthetic and indie aesthetic confused. This is because they share many similarities in the type of vibe they give off and the style clothing they are typically known for. Grunge and indie fashion are both known for vintage styles, distressed details, individualism and straying from the norm. But despite the similarities, there are very distinct differences. 

Indie Aesthetic: Indie Looks for Guys

Indie fashion is rooted in the anti-authority rock scene of the 70’s, which is why it is so closely related to grunge aesthetic and widely intermixed today. However, indie style clothes have evolved in today’s fashion scene as, though still uniquely individualized, more spirited and less anti anything. This aesthetic today, also related to hipster culture, tends to have more bold and bright colors in addition to its original dark and muted tones.

Grunge Aesthetic: How to Dress Grunge for Guys

Grunge fashion gives off a very bold and dominant energy — an energy that cannot be ignored. It’s similar to indie as we’ve already discussed with distressed details and individuality, but it is much more of an edgier, tried and true kind of look. Still, there is a reason this aesthetic is also widely intermixed with indie aesthetic and that is because there are variations to this style.

Easy grunge outfits start with a classic rock-band or hip-hop inspired tee paired with stacked jeans or distressed jeans (especially if they've got a raw hem). For more street grunge clothing, look for distressed denim and cargos, paint splatter hoodies, and paint splatter jeans.
